London, May 12th, 2023 – LRL Roofing Solutions proudly announced today that we have been honoured with the respected NFRC Green Roof Award 2023 at the annual awards ceremony, held in London.

The event, attended by roofing industry contemporaries from up and down the country, celebrated some of the most complex, interesting, and challenging projects of the past 18 months.

Held at the InterContinental London – The O2, the roofing event of the year recognises and rewards the ‘’outstanding standards of workmanship and safety within the UK roofing industry’’.

Usually running on an annual basis, and being held in May, the 2023 ceremony was the first to take place since November 2021. TV personality, Colin Murray, took charge of hosting duties this time around and ensured those in attendance had plenty to laugh about with his on point sense of humour.

LRL were up against some stiff competition in the green roof category, facing off against Welsh contingent, J Randall Roofing Contractors Limited, Manchester based Sky Garden Ltd, and Bournemouth based The Flat Roofing Company Ltd. Each shortlisted project looked fantastic, and all boasted unique features worthy of winning.

Upon picking up the award for Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre (First Light Pavilion), Robert Richmond, Managing Director stated:

‘’We were excited and quietly confident of success this year due to the quality and magnitude of the Jodrell Bank project.

Not only was this a great event, spending time with some of the top roofing contractors in the country, seeing some of the wonderful work that takes place nationwide within our illustrious industry, we also get to celebrate success within our ranks and socialise in a manner that doesn’t happen day to day.

I am extremely proud of what the team has achieved, this includes both past and present colleagues and our subcontractors.’’

This green roofing project was a landmark installation for LRL and working alongside tier one contractor, Kier, we have been able to raise our profile as a truly multi-disciplined roofing contractor. It was a challenging project that featured unusual curvature to the building and a sizeable environmental focus, set by the client.

Working to a Bauder system specification certainly made the installer easier, and LRL welcomed the weekly site inspections from their site team, ensuring system integrity at all times.

Other notable winners at the awards were Fulwood Roofing, who picked up gold for their incredible tiling efforts on Stockport School and the overall winner for ‘Roof of the Year’, Stuart Wheeler Roofing LTD.

Stuart was clearly a worthy winner and one who was more surprised himself than anybody else in the room. His project at Yellowsands in Thurlestone was awarded the prized accolade for incredible dedication to workmanship, and a clear pride in roofing, using reclaimed Delabole slate from the local area - something the whole room could applaud.

The First Light Pavilion project as a whole has recently won three awards – they are:

  • LABC Building Excellence Awards – Regional (Cheshire East) for Best Public / Community Building Award
  • North West Construction News Awards – Regional for Building Project of the Year Award
  • North West Construction News Awards – Regional for Innovation Award

LRL have now picked up two awards in as many ceremonies, with the 2021 award coming from great efforts on Wythenshawe Forum in Manchester, which attained the 'Industry Choice' 2021.
