Listed building status pending approval
Located in the heart if Liverpool's University district, the Sydney Jones Library has accommodated students since 1976. The building itself is on track to attain a listed building status once all refurbishment works are complete.
The library was undergoing extensive modernisation during our works, so we had to coordinate practically with ULCCO to ensure minimal disruption to the students. One of the most iconic designs of the library is the 'internal study bays' that jut out just beyond the main roof. Working on these bays was challenging and we had to alter the designs part way through. By doing so we insulated voids found in some of the bays and reduced the roof size to make sure we provided sufficient waterproofing coverage.
The main bulk of the works focused on renewing the aging roof system. We were tasked to strip the original roof back to the asphalt deck, firstly by removing the stone chippings and moss and then secondly by installing the BTRS system.
